The Charming Tufted Deer
In a quiet, wooded corner of the zoo resides Bao, a tufted deer with a small, furry "tuft" on his forehead and delicate fangs that peek out like miniature tusks. Despite his vampire-like appearance, Bao is shy and gentle, often seen nibbling on leafy greens or resting under the shade of a tree.
Bao’s unique appearance and behavior make him a hit during educational sessions. Keepers share that tufted deer are native to mountain forests in Asia and are known for their solitary nature. Bao’s presence at the zoo helps raise awareness about the challenges these lesser-known deer face in the wild, including deforestation and hunting.
